Dear all,

Discussing with Alia, it seems that we need to clarify the relationship between the different groups dealing with YANG.

- Routing Area YANG Coordination
    Goal: routing related YANG coordination
    Contact: rtg-yang-coord@ietf.org
    Pointer: http://trac.tools.ietf.org/area/rtg/trac/wiki/RtgYangCoord

- YANG Multicast Design Team
Goal: design team for YANG models for multicast, with focus on protocols related to PIM and IGMP/MLD
    Contact: http://trac.tools.ietf.org/wg/pim/trac/wiki/yang
    Pointer: http://trac.tools.ietf.org/wg/pim/trac/wiki/yang

- YANG Model Coordination Group
    Goal: broader YANG coordination.
    Contact: yang-coord@ietf.org
    Pointer: http://www.ietf.org/iesg/directorate/yang-model-coordination-group.html
Mode of operation: everybody can subscribe to the mailing list, webex calls are among ourselves
See the latest status, presented at the IETF 94: 03 - YANG Model Coordination Group
In a nutshell, we're focusing on
Phase 1: List of the YANG models (inventory)
Phase 2: Tooling
Phase 3: Help with compilation
Phase 4: Training/Education
Phase 5: Coordination across SDOs/Opensource
Phase 6: Model Coordination within the IETF
Phase 7: Standardization Priorities
- the YANG doctors:
Goal: The YANG doctors/reviewers help the OPS AD to review YANG documents on the IESG agenda.
    Contact: yang-doctors@ietf.org
    Pointer: http://www.ietf.org/iesg/directorate/yang-doctors.html

- NETMOD mailing list:
Goal: YANG language discussion + YANG data models for which no specific WG exists
    Contact: netmod@ietf.org
    Pointer: https://datatracker.ietf.org/wg/netmod/charter/

I know that some of you are part of the multiple groups, and I know that there are sometimes redundant discussions, however, let's try to use the correct communication channel.

I hope that my message below makes more sense now.

Regards, Benoit

Dear all,

I will stop duplicating messages to the different YANG-related mailing lists.
I hope that you guys are part of yang-coord@ietf.org, to which I post from time to time.

Regards, Benoit

Seriously, I am concerned that we are drifting away from the original focus of the data model. We should keep in mind it needs to remain usable by hosts (even constrained ones) and simple routers because there is no other model such devices could use. > (e.g., virtual router or VRF), L2 (e.g., Virtual Switch Instance), or > a combination (some EVPN, TRILL, etc). As per NSAP definition, system-ID is 6 bytes and it has below mentioned format and it is only of length 6 bytes. typedef system-id { type string { pattern '[0-9A-Fa-f]{4}\.[0-9A-Fa-f]{4}\.[0-9A-Fa-f]{4}'; } description "This type defines ISIS system id using pattern, system id looks like : 0143.0438.AeF0"; } 2. Also we need support to configure net-address as shown below. typedef net-address { type string { pattern '[0-9A-Fa-f]{2}\.([0-9A-Fa-f]{4}\.){0,3}[0-9A-Fa-f]{4}\.[0-9A-Fa-f]{4}\.[0-9A-Fa-f]{4}\.00'; configd:pattern-help "XX.XXXX. ... .XXXX.XX"; configd:help "Network entity title (NET)"; } } Please let me know if you need more details. In particular, one schema can be = embedded as a subschema of another. This would allow for reusing the = existing modules such as "ietf-interfaces" in non-root contexts, e.g. as = suggested in draft-rtgyangdt-rtgwg-device-model-01. Such a meta-schema also allows for specifying a schema for anydata = content at run time, which could partly alleviate the problems we are = facing wing anydata. Comments and suggestions are certainly welcome.
