And DMARC is not (yet) and IETF standard. The collateral damage that is cited, however, is of course real and problematic. Whether IETF lists should hack around the problem is a continuing source of debate and is controversial enough to warrant IETF-wide rough consensus, IMO. d/ ps. In the broadest terms, the From field hack that folk claim to like is merely telling spammers how to bypass DMARC... d/ -- Dave Crocker Brandenburg InternetWorking bbiw.net From nobody Fri Feb 6 12:58:41 2015 Return-Path: X-Original-To: tools-discuss@ietfa.amsl.com Delivered-To: tools-discuss@ietfa.amsl.com Received: from localhost (ietfa.amsl.com [127.0.0.1]) by ietfa.amsl.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7FAB21A0E10 for ; Fri, 6 Feb 2015 12:58:39 -0800 (PST) X-Virus-Scanned: amavisd-new at amsl.com X-Spam-Flag: NO X-Spam-Score: -4.21 X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Status: No, score=-4.21 tagged_above=-999 required=5 tests=[BAYES_00=-1.9, RCVD_IN_DNSWL_MED=-2.3, T_RP_MATCHES_RCVD=-0.01] autolearn=ham Received: from mail.ietf.org ([4.31.198.44]) by localhost (ietfa.amsl.com [127.0.0.1]) (amavisd-new, port 10024) with ESMTP id UH1ghn1B6Ch1 for ; Fri, 6 Feb 2015 12:58:38 -0800 (PST) Received: from nbfkord-smmo07.seg.att.com (nbfkord-smmo07.seg.att.com [209.65.160.93]) (using TLSv1 with cipher DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA (256/256 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by ietfa.amsl.com (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 920CB1A1B0A for ; Fri, 6 Feb 2015 12:58:36 -0800 (PST) Received: from unknown [144.160.229.23] (EHLO alpi154.enaf.aldc.att.com) by nbfkord-smmo07.seg.att.com(mxl_mta-7.2.2-0) over TLS secured channel with ESMTP id 9fa25d45.0.365581.00-2280.1029383.nbfkord-smmo07.seg.att.com (envelope-from ); Fri, 06 Feb 2015 20:58:36 +0000 (UTC) X-MXL-Hash: 54d52afc2ee3dc7d-16e817cb269c456add6d4fe2605b6165b305fef2 Received: from enaf.aldc.att.com (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by alpi154.enaf.aldc.att.com (8.14.5/8.14.5) with ESMTP id t16KwXCs029898 for ; Fri, 6 Feb 2015 15:58:33 -0500 Received: from alpi132.aldc.att.com (alpi132.aldc.att.com [130.8.217.2]) by alpi154.enaf.aldc.att.com (8.14.5/8.14.5) with ESMTP id t16KwMlw029817 (version=TLSv1/SSLv3 cipher=DHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 bits=256 verify=NO) for ; Fri, 6 Feb 2015 15:58:25 -0500 Received: from alpi153.aldc.att.com (alpi153.aldc.att.com [130.8.42.31]) by alpi132.aldc.att.com (RSA Interceptor) for ; Fri, 6 Feb 2015 20:58:12 GMT Received: from aldc.att.com (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by alpi153.aldc.att.com (8.14.5/8.14.5) with ESMTP id t16KwCGJ005518 for ; Fri, 6 Feb 2015 15:58:12 -0500 Received: from dns.maillennium.att.com (maillennium.att.com [135.25.114.99]) by alpi153.aldc.att.com (8.14.5/8.14.5) with ESMTP id t16Kw6Vw005362 for ; Fri, 6 Feb 2015 15:58:06 -0500 Received: from azcdtl02um564q.itservices.sbc.com (azcdtl02um564q.itservices.sbc.com?[135.110.241.180](misconfigured sender)) by maillennium.att.com (mailgw1) with ESMTP id <20150206205805gw1000ce8fe>; Fri, 6 Feb 2015 20:58:06 +0000 X-Originating-IP: [135.110.241.180] Message-ID: <54D52ADD.30602@att.com> Date: Fri, 06 Feb 2015 15:58:05 -0500 From: Tony Hansen User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.10; rv:31.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/31.4.0 MIME-Version: 1.0 To: Tools Team Discussion Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-RSA-Inspected: yes X-RSA-Classifications: public X-AnalysisOut: [v=2.0 cv=boL78jmi c=1 sm=1 a=VXHOiMMwGAwA+y4G3/O+aw==:17 a] X-AnalysisOut: [=mJp9S24oyUUA:10 a=le3RU-y2I78A:10 a=BLceEmwcHowA:10 a=Ikc] X-AnalysisOut: [TkHD0fZMA:10 a=zQP7CpKOAAAA:8 a=0HtSIViG9nkA:10 a=48vgC7mU] X-AnalysisOut: [AAAA:8 a=9TCZ953uXewqOS7s7A0A:9 a=QEXdDO2ut3YA:10 a=2mLzDu] X-AnalysisOut: [UFM-0A:10 a=SckvSh0EDAYxOmzi:21 a=aMUJ1OIrjJRROjSm:21] X-Spam: [F=0.2000000000; CM=0.500; S=0.200(2014051901)] X-MAIL-FROM: X-SOURCE-IP: [144.160.229.23] Archived-At: Subject: [Tools-discuss] conditional query in draft submission for draft-i*-00 drafts X-BeenThere: tools-discuss@ietf.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.15 Precedence: list List-Id: IETF Tools Discussion List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 06 Feb 2015 20:58:39 -0000 When a draft-ietf-....-00 draft is submitted, and often when a draft-iab-...-00 or draft-irtf-...-00 draft is submitted, it's a WG/IAB/RG-accepted revision of a previous individual submission. There is a field in the datatracker database for this to be populated, which allows various tools, including the datatracker and tools.ietf.org/html/draft.... to provide proper linkage across versions. (For example, the tools.ietf.org/html version will show you a pointer to the previous individual submission and let you do a diff from the -00 against the individual submission as well.) However, this ONLY works when that pointer is populated. Right now, it almost always requires a manual poke at ietf-action or ietf-secretariat to get the linkage fixed up. I know of several documents recently added to the draft-iab track (that were previously individual submissions) where the manual poke took significant time. I'd like to propose that, when the file being submitted is named draft-ietf-...-00, draft-iab-...-00 or draft-irtf-...-00, another text box becomes visible that lets the author fill in the previous individual submission's filename. This information would be sent directly to the proper address at the secretariat for verification, and then the link can be added to the database by the secretariat. Another additional enhancement would be tool support for the secretariat to use make easier the verification that the individual submission listed really is the previous version. (For example, show an iframe displaying the tools.ietf.org version of the individual-submission document and another iframe displaying the draft-i*-00 document, and a button that can be clicked to add the pointer data to the database.) Definitely so. The expansion has now moved to the main ietf mail server, and the issue below is related to removing expansion @tools.ietf.org, leaving that to the postfix program @ietf.org > For example, http://mail.tools.ietf.org/draft/aliases now shows: > draft-kumarkini-mpls-spring-lsp-ping: draft-kumarkini-mpls-spring-lsp-ping@ietf.org > > > One implication is that the Resent-to header does not include individual email addresses expanded: > From: > Resent-To: Carlos Pignataro Hannes Gredler Mach Chen Nagendra Kumar Nobo Akiya Sri Kini George Swallow // addresses removed > To: > Resent-To: draft-kumarkini-mpls-spring-lsp-ping@ietf.org > > This broke filters that rely on finding individual email addresses in > this header. This is not the case on the “WG alias file” (yet?). > > Could we have the individual addresses added back to this Header? That's the intention. Robert and I requested this from the secretariat a couple of weeks ago, about the same time as I set up expansion for the same addresses @ietf.org. Clearly it hasn't happened yet. I don't know how to make postfix add that header; when I set up the Resent-To: header for the draft-* alias expansion on tools.ietf.org, I did it using exim. In other words, I can't offer advice to the secretariat in this case. As mentioned above, I'm Bcc:ing the secretariat, I'll also ping them on Jabber. Best regards, Henrik
