[16:15:07] <iljitsch> this was during ICC'09
[16:15:30] <iljitsch> I could only get 5 emails during coffee breaks, the rest of the time the congestion approached 100%

[16:17:06] <iljitsch> from Europe SA isn't worse than NA or Asia, but NA - SA isn't ideal.

[16:29:10] Akira Kato leaves the room
[16:34:42] <Klensin> Mic: If the only identification in the Jabber log is a deliberately cryptic or over-cute handle, we actually don't know who was participating -- especially if the question arises a few years later.

[16:58:38] <Alessandro Amirante> Klensin: Simon will relay...
[16:58:43] <Simon> ...lining up @ mic
[16:58:54] <iljitsch> I think part of the problem is that the chairs are in charge of the conflict avoidance, we probably need more attendee input here
[16:59:21] <SM> The chairs ask the WG about that usually
[16:59:46] weiler leaves the room
[17:00:22] arifumi joins the room
[17:00:37] tomoyuki tsuichihara joins the room
[17:00:49] <Klensin> Of course adding a ninth track just creates more opportunities for conflict. It allows more meeting slots, but is unlikely to help with conflicts.
[17:01:30] <SM> The meeting week is already a stretch
[17:03:38] <iljitsch> better chairing could help keep sessions short
[17:04:02] <iljitsch> chairs rarely keep the discussions on track
[17:06:12] <Klensin> Mic: Pete, would you (and your colleagues) be willing to ask WG Chairs at scheduling time what specific issues they anticipate needing to discuss at the meeting? Getting realistic answers might be hard given how early we start scheduling, but, if a WG has no clue, maybe that ranks "no" or at least "low priority for both slots, slot length, or conflict avoidance".
[17:08:49] <Alessandro Amirante> Klensin: that's a pity we didn't set up the Meetecho voice-to-room feature for this plenary session! :)

[17:11:36] <Klensin> Alessandro Amirante :-) Making that work well is really hard unless the tool can maintain a queue and the Chair is willing to monitor the queue and treat it just like a microphone queue.. Worth thinking about, but, IMO, you would need to consider signup from the Chair as a prerequisite for turning it on.
[17:13:31] <Alessandro Amirante> Klensin: that's exactly what we have in mind...
[17:14:03] <Mem Sandberg> Most important to know if a WG will have a meeting rather know the exakt agenda. Travel or not to travel is the question
[17:14:13] <Alessandro Amirante> have a look at http://ietf83.conf.meetecho.com/index.php/UMPIRE_Project

[17:22:40] <Andrew Sullivan> I've heard repeatedly on the WG chairs list that the "socialization" presentations are important in WGs. I personally don't like them, but many people think they're important for all the reasons we just heard at the mic

[17:29:57] <iljitsch> maybe it's a good idea to review slides and reject presentations that don't seem to be interesting
