[17:12:47] <adrianfarrel> saw draft, thought it a start. didn't pay more attention. would be good to prod the list. agree no competing drafts at the time, might have popped up
[17:13:46] <adrianfarrel> Pascal this is a plcae holder for WG to express ideas. Now there is good discussion
[17:19:41] PETRESCU-EXOPC leaves the room
[17:23:39] <yi.jiazi> can't see the slides on http://datatracker.ietf.org/meeting/81/materials.html ?
[17:24:14] mycom joins the room
[17:27:37] <adrianfarrel> Yea
[17:27:52] <adrianfarrel> Looks like a partial set of slides posted.
[17:27:58] <adrianfarrel> Dan: any comment to make?
[17:31:23] <danielking.net> I cannot find them. Anyone else?
[17:32:03] <danielking.net> Is this Slide 9 Adrian?
[17:32:19] <adrianfarrel> screen now blue, so no slide visible
[17:32:56] <adrianfarrel> This is draft-ietf-roll-applicability-ami
[17:35:12] <danielking.net> I think these slides have not been posted on the agenda page,

[17:57:58] <danielking.net> Regarding Adrian's "Bodging" comment. This refers to a job done of necessity using whatever tools and materials come to hand and which, whilst not necessarily elegant, is nevertheless serviceable.
[17:58:41] yi.jiazi leaves the room
[18:02:11] <adrianfarrel> Hey, Dan. That sounds like you are sensitive to how BGP has been made to work!
[18:11:29] david.culler joins the room
[18:11:56] <david.culler> Hello JP. I'm here on Jabber. David.
[18:15:07] <adrianfarrel> Hi David
[18:15:16] <adrianfarrel> JP is projecting so can't jabber
[18:15:32] babongo leaves the room
[18:16:00] <david.culler> Understand.
[18:16:07] yi.jiazi joins the room
[18:20:14] mycom leaves the room
[18:23:11] <angelo.castellani> are the slides available online?
[18:23:32] <yi.jiazi> didn't find it either
[18:24:16] <david.culler> There is a set of slides in the meeting materials - not linked on the agenda. But I'm not sure that he is following them.
[18:24:54] <yi.jiazi> there several slides there, but not all http://datatracker.ietf.org/meeting/81/materials.html
[18:25:10] <yi.jiazi> 5) Update from Pascal Thuber on Aplicability statement
4) "Adapted Multimedia Internet KEYing (AMIKEY)
1) WG Status (Chairs - 10 mn)
[18:26:44] <david.culler> 3) draft-ietf-roll-p2p-rpl <http://www.ietf.org/proceedings/81/slides/roll-4.pptx>
[18:27:43] <yi.jiazi> thanks

[18:35:09] mycom joins the room
[18:40:45] <david.culler> There is quite a bit documented on trickle for broadcast. Multicast may thin the density of the subgraph participating in the collection of retransmissions, so the need for suppression can be reduced. The same is true in physical topologies where the degree of the connectivity graph is low. The trickle mechanism includes density estimation to adjust the suppression. If the density is very low - such as in a line - it reduces to flooding. But that is in the case where flooding works because no broadcast storm is possible.
[18:41:49] adrianfarrel joins the room
[18:48:10] <david.culler> In 6lowpan compaction, non-fixed size objects are often compressed. The requirement is that the common case be of a determined size.
[18:49:21] danwing leaves the room
[18:49:32] <david.culler> Thinking of this as compact TLVs, rather than a fixed format of a zillion fields was very effective.
[18:50:54] <adrianfarrel> David - is that a comment to mic?
[18:51:01] <david.culler> yes
[18:51:16] <adrianfarrel> gotcha
[18:53:14] mycom leaves the room
[18:53:44] <david.culler> Not cryptic. The statement was that compression was only possible when the size is fixed. It merely needs to be carried in-line when it is not of the (common) fixed size. Oh well.
[18:54:05] <adrianfarrel> I'll try again
[18:54:25] <david.culler> That's OK. It can be handled in the email.
[18:55:38] <david.culler> But then it needs to be flexible enough that we don't get painted into a corner, like we did in Lowpan in 2007.
[18:56:04] <adrianfarrel> I get my exercise with you David :-)
[18:56:15] <david.culler> Thanks. You did well.
[18:56:22] mycom joins the room
[18:56:26] <adrianfarrel> But I am now leaving the meeting - can someone else channel as needed
[18:56:30] adrianfarrel leaves the room
[18:56:44] <david.culler> We are close to the close.
[19:00:22] <david.culler> Re: Thomas' comment. I would argue against "two formats" - default and other. Better to have a defined compaction scheme where the "most general case" is the carried fully in-line.
