Title : Liaison Statement to the IETF AVT Working Group
on MPEG-4 on IP
WG11
is glad to inform
you about the progress of the
specifications for the transport of MPEG-4 content on
IP network. The generic payload format specification has now reached consensus in the MPEG community. The IETF reference
for this specification is: draft-ietf-avt-mpeg4-multiSL-03.txt. The SC29 WG11 reference for the same
document is N4428. This specification defines consistent carriage of MPEG-4 video and audio elementary streams as well as SL packetized streams on
the RTP/UDP/IP protocol stacks.
This was not supported by the previous IETF specification dealing with the
carriage of MPEG-4 audio and video elementary streams on IP networks (RFC
3016). The simplified version of this
specification has also reached consensus. The IETF reference for the
specification is: draft-ietf-avt-mpeg4-simple-00.txt. In addition, complete
framework for the carriage of MPEG-4 contents over IP networks are standardized
as a part 8 of MPEG-4 specification. The IETF reference for this specification
is: draft-singer-mpeg4-ip-03.txt.
As the multimedia industry is now willing to develop products using your RTP based delivery framework including MPEG-4 technology, we request a promotion of these specification to RFC as rapidly as possible to favour development of interoperable solutions.
