- DHCP relay: enables clients and servers to reside on different subnets

- DHCP servers unicast replies to relays (no broadcasting!)
- Key Ideas
- make DHCP client send messages that APPEAR to have come from a relay to force unicast server replies
- use the temporary home address as the relay’s address
- disable all forwarding of broadcast traffic from the HA
