Scope and Objective

What ?

• Propose IP-based control-plane for G.709-capable networks

  • ITU-T G.709 v1 recommendation accepted Feb 2001

• Propose GMPLS Signalling extensions for G.709 OTH

Why ?

• G.709 (next step after SDH/Sonet) support Tb/s bandwidth services per fiber via DWDM lines and optical channels at 2.5 Gb/s, 10 Gb/s and 40 Gb/s

• GMPLS = THE signalling paradigm for Packet, TDM and Optical networks (opaque - transparent - all-optical)

• G.709 enhanced features combined with GMPLS flexibility = key issue for intelligent optical networks
