More Complex Networks
Considering a multi-island network including both opaque OXCs & one or more all-optical "islands" isolated by transponders
The first requirement for routing in a multi-island network is that the routing process needs to know the extent of each island
- When entering or leaving an all-optical island, the regeneration process cleans up the optical impairments
- Each all-optical island may have its own bounds on some impairments.
- The routing process needs to be sensitive to the costs associated with "island-hopping".
