IETF 72 RMT WG Minutes Tuesday, 29 July 2008 ======================== 1) Agenda Bashing The agenda was accepted without comment. 2) Working Group Progress The WG Chairs presented the following documents' status and there was discussion on each: a) The publication of "draft-ietf-rmt-bb-fec-ldpc" as RFC 5170 was announced. b) The following documents have been submitted for publication: - The "draft-ietf-rmt-bb-fec-rs" is dependent upon completion of the revised "draft-ietf-rmt-bb-fec-basic-schemes-revised" document. - The "draft-ietf-rmt-bb-fec-basic-schemes-revised" is pending minor editorial corrections. - The "draft-ietf-rmt-bb-norm-revised" document has some IESG comments that are being resolved. c) The "draft-ietf-rmt-pi-norm-revised-06" document just recently expired and is ready for publication. The editor (Brian Adamson) is making some changes consistent with IESG comments on the submitted "NORM BB" document and will post an updated document and submit for publication. d) The "draft-ietf-rmt-bb-lct-revised-07" was recently posted and is ready to be submitted for publication pending WG Chair review. e) The documents "draft-ietf-rmt-sec-discussion-02" and "draft-roca-rmt-newfcast-02" were updated and were discussed later in the meeting (see below). f) The documents "draft-ietf-rmt-pi-alc-revised-05" and "draft-ietf-rmt-flute-revised-05" are in need of attention and the mailing list and document authors will be polled for status and to ensure that the documents are being worked. Brian Adamson will post the applicable excerpt on the IPsec-based approach to security from the NORM PI that can also be applied to ALC. If additional volunteers are needed to complete the work on these documents, the current authors are requested to identify this. 3) The "RMT Security Issues" draft was presented. The document was updated and some simplifications were made to sections discussing group security management, etc that might be addressed by other work in the MSEC working group. There was consensus that the RMT Security Issues document could be useful as a non-normative informational document that can be addressed by future RMT protocol specifications. It is possible that the current NORM and ALC PI documents might reference this document if it can be completed quickly. The document authors agreed to try to complete the work quickly to support this goal. 4) Vincent Roca provided an "Update on LDPC Decoding Techniques" that were added as reference and slightly impacted the LDCP document while it was in IESG review. The published RFC reflects support for these techniques and Vincent provided a summary of the performance advantages that these offer. 5) The new FCAST document was presented that describes a limited object (e.g., file) transmission application using either the ALC or NORM protocols. The RMT mailing list needs to be polled to see if there is sufficient WG interest to justify adding this work to the RMT working group charter. The working group priorities remain with completing existing work (NORM, ALC, FLUTE) but this additional work may have merit if there is sufficient interest. 6) Open Discussion, Related Work & Announcements: Vincent Roca indicated that an update to the "Simple Authentication" document ("draft-roca-rmt-simple-auth-for-alc-norm") will be available soon. Per the previous IETF meeting, this will now be submitted as a WG document. There was discussion with regards to making this Working Group document. The mailing list will be polled to confirm that there is consensus for this action. Vincent also mentioned that a new version of the relevant MSEC TESLA document is also almost complete.
