Chris Newman, Lisa Dusseault, Chairs Eric Burger, Scibe Agenda was bashed Discussion on RESTful Web Protocols (Lisa Dusseault) ---------------------------------- Description of history of original web concept (Fielding), CGI, servelets, SOAP, WebDAV, ATOM, AJAX, etc. Discussion of ad hoc open web protocols, like Open ID, OAUTH, Open Social, Portable Contacts, Most of this work is not happening at IETF. What is role of IETF? Sometimes it looks like things may conflict with IETF principles, like security. How to work with them? Shared individual contributors, bring document to IETF, formal liaisons, etc. It depends on the situation. Lots of discussion on how to bring these folks in, how to make them welcome, how to get change control, if desired. OAUTH BOF (Mike Nottingham) ---------------- OAUTH elevator pitch and invitation to BOF. Common Apps Area Issues (Chris Newman) ------------------------------------- XML Schemata: often find problems with extensions. XML Schema hard to extend. RelaxNG extensible, but needs close work. Use of HTTP: BCP 56 says use port other than 80. Industry uses port 80. Need to at least use different media types. I18n: people forget it; BCP18, Language Tags, Net-Unicode (RFC 5198), StringPrep (slightly broken; no one is fixing it right now) Use of TLS: Documents need text describing service identity check. See draft-hodges-server-ident-check-00. List discussion at IMC or IETF; Chris will publish information on apps-discuss. IANA: STATE TITLE OF REGISTRY! Specification required implies expert review. Mandatory list review can be problematic, but whatever. See IANA’s new XML registry schema for XML registries. New Work in Apps -------------- Is there interest in LDAP work? Not enough organization before IETF73. Possibly at IETF 74? If you are interested, contact Kurt Zeilenga. Discussion at ldap-ext@ietf.org Yet Another Mail Work Group (Tony Hanson): Advancing Mail suite to Full Standard. Charter design team discussion will be at end of Applications Area work group. Tony will announce charter design team mail list to the apps-discuss list Morg (Barry Leiba): will propose an updated charter this week (Alexey) - standardizing drafts around sorting and finding messages. On morg@ietf.org FTP (Barry Leiba): some people want to take industry stuff to IETF; is there enough interest to form a work group. John Klensin: please participate if you are interested. Lisa doubtful about individual submissions to modify major applications protocol and also doubtful there is enough interest to form a work group. Other Stuff ----------- SIP/XMPP interop: interest? See Peter Saint-Andre. Geopriv: Held Identity Extensions - issues about using URIs. Worth looking into it. W3C: May need liaison for some issues around privacy (Ted Hardy), W3C p3p, etc. Update on HTTPbis (Mark Nottingham)
