Minutes kindly taken by Dave McDysan 13:00 RG Status Update & Agenda Bash (Stefano & Volker) .RFC 5765 (was security draft) .draft-irtf-p2prg-alto-survey-01 (Enrico) Feedback/comments solicitied from entire research group for topics in chair slides New policy, not allowing call for papers on p2prg mailing list. (Note: Need to upload chair slides to Meeting Materials, suggest inserting draft list for solicited comments as well as Next Steps here in meeting minutes.) Vijay: Group together common topics (e.g., use of alto to discover "nearby" things.) Dave: Additional research on more efficient discovery methods and security models for P2PSIP desirable. Yunfei Zhang,: Add open questions from "Challenges of P2P Streaming and PPSP" preso to P2PRG list of topics. 13:10 Content Peering (Bruce) - Basic proposal is to create a research project to (better) de(re)fine the problem, document high-level requirements, and then identify specific wg specification activities. John Buford: 1. Subset of connecting P2P for other problems besides CDNs (no examples given) more general, DHT federation. Bruce agreed. 2. Not clear that existing CDNs use DHT, but proprietary overlays. 3. Intra-DHT put/get published elsewhere, suggest using inter-DHT put/get here. Dave Oran: 1. Interfaces between data blobs, or 2. request from a user to this set of blobs. Bruce: Inter-DHT ut/get is interface between blobs Volker: Is protocol independent of business agreement, or are different protocols needed for sets of business agreements? Bruce: Objective would be to list set of business agreeents that would not be precluded and specify a single set of protocol requirements, targeting one protocol to be developed. Dmitri Sai ?: What is benefit of this versus current P2P paradigm? Bruce: Benefit is to enable content publisher to distribute content without connecting to every CDN, similar to sending packets across ASes today. 13:40 draft-marocco-p2prg-mythbustering-01 (Enrico) Mailing list comments solicitied. 13:45 draft-kamei-p2p-experiments-japan-01 (Kamei-san) Q: What software was used? Stefano: Good input to alto wg. May have dependency on ISP fragmentation in Japan. Already presented at alto, don't suggest/ bounce again. McDysan: Question for clarification on slide 10 -- what distance (AS or physical) was being reported? Answer appeared to be AS. Observation, hints did not decrease distance, if AS, could be due to reason stated by Stefano. 14:00 open research items in peer to peer live streaming (Omer) Q: Is interactive service supported. A: Usually not, but there is a need to control the time at which content is shown (e.g., to prevent delayed sending). McDysan: Requested upload of updated presentation for wg review. Omer offered to also send out link to a white paper on his research. 14:30 Challenges from P2P streaming and PPSP (Yunfei) Slide 19 (Note: Suggest requesting that all future presentations add slide numbers. This could help facilitate more email discussion as requested by chairs at beginning of meeting.) Dave Oran: Moving means physical movement. ??Q: Are private IP addresses and NAT traversal required. A: Yes Slide 23 Vijay: Is this normal clustering without any preference by ISP? A: Yes. Volker: Degree of localization, A: Strong. 14:50 Hot Topics in P2P RG & Wrap Up (Stefano & Volker) Look at Mika's slides as sent on list, not time to present today.
