Access Node Control Protocol, Tuesday 27th July 2010, 17:10-18:10 ================================================================= Chairs: Matthew Bocci @ Wojceich Dec Scribes: Francois Le Faucher & Hongyu Li ================================================================= 17:19 meeting starts. Agenda bashing: ============ * one additional presentation (by Tom T) to be added to agenda on ancp-mcast WG Status and Update - Chairs ========================= see Matthew slides. Milestones. WG draft update: * one new RFC: RFC 5851 ANCP Framework ANCP Protocol: Roberta stepped down as editor, editorship taken over by Tom Taylor. ANCP protocol Draft - draft-ietf-ancp-protocol-10.txt - Tom Taylor =========================================================== see slides. Modified text: * deemphasize GSMPv3 * eliminate redundancy * clarify * change to make presentation consistent Technical changes: * New definitions: TLV, capability, ANCP session * Narratives replaced by RFC 2119 requirement language * Added detail on Transaction ID initialization * Added statement that the length of a TLV that includes other TLVs MUST include the padding in those encapsulated TLVs * Fuller specification of Port UP/DOWN and Port Management message fields and procedures * Added description of Command TLV contents to justify Command Code registry * Issue 1: Capabilities and Technology Specific * some capabilities are technology- specific (e.g. DSL line testing), some are not (e.g. multicast). * Tech Type field is separate from capability fields * Means capabilities have to be presented in groups, each for a specific technology type Three alternative approaches for Issue 1: * Keep current arrangement. Need to modify adjacency message to carry multiple capability sets, one per supported Tech Type, plus one for "any". * Move Tech Type to be part of Capability Field. * Make Capability Type codepoints technology- specific (as they are in -10 version) and ignore the Tech Type field Woj: 3rd option seems least intrusive wrt on-wire protocol. Tom: agrees Woj: confirm that choice on the list * Issue 2: version Registry * proposal: combine registry for version & sub-verions Tom: is this agreeable No objection in the room. * Issue 3: Unspecified Tech Type Codepoints Woj: agrees with proposal for 0x00 (ie "not technology specific") * Issue 4: Underspecified BVLAN Tag Field. Woj: since this has been implemented by someone, we will request clarification about what they've implemented on the list * Issue 5: GSMPv3 vs ANCP Registries Can ANCP modify GSMPv3, jut just by adding codepoints, but by specifying new limits? Ralph: Was supposed to look into it, but don't have an answer. Will look into it. * Issue 6: Registry for X-Function * this is inherited from GSMP. was a provision for future but so far has never been used. * proposal: define a registry as sub-registry of each function registry. Francois: since no X-Function is defined, why don't you just leave it until an X-Function is defined? Tom: I see. That would avoid defining one unused sub-registry for each Function. But still worth adding a note for possible future need for these sub-registries. * Issue 7: reqt for UTF-8 instead of ASCII Tom: no response from Huawei colleages. Woj: Happy with UTF-8. ANCP Multicast Extensions Draft -draft-ietf-ancp-mc-extensions-02.txt - Tom Taylor ================================================================================== Optimization of bandwidth usage will be put on the mailing list UPDATE of draft-ietf-ancp-mc-extensions-02.txt - Francois Le Faucher ==================================================================== Optimization of bandwidth usage will be put on the mailing list Timer issue in draft-ietf-ancp-mib-an-03.txt - B.Witschurke@telekom.de ====================================================================== Nurit - valuable experience from real deployment. Woj - is there a mib to change it? Matthew - realistic to have this. Chair - no objection in the room. will put to the mailing list. Network Anti-Attack for ANCP - draft-fan-ancp-network-anti-attack-01.txt - Bo Wu ================================================================================ Chair - Calls for more people to read the draft before making call to advance to WG draft.
