ATOCA, IETF 81, Quebec 1. Chairs presented working group status. Working group has been dormant since the last meeting. 2. Chairs presented a plan for working group progress. Work on requirements and architecture will be delegated to a small group of volunteers who will produce a draft. This draft, plus some progress on the solution, will be presented at a virtual interim in September. Initial drafts for each of the pieces of the solution will be prepared for the November meeting in Taipei. The team will include Brian Rosen; Hannes Tschofenig; Richard Barnes; James Polk; Matt Miller and Dave CROCKER 3. Brian Rosen led a discussion on architecture. Some better understanding of the issues was reached. Discussion focused on the separation between "distribution" and "broadcast" concept - or author to N-1 and "last mile". (Some skepticism was expressed on whether these are the best choice of terms.) For the "last mile/broadcast" mention was made of using network native mechanisms. Cell broadcast in 3GPP networks was the most obvious example, but Gabor Bajko gave a brief description of the work that IEEE has done on WiFi alert distribution, which is near completion. Martin Thomson observed that heterogeneous networks will mean that alert distribution using native mechanisms might face some challenges. Mention was made of the absence of any security requirements in the current requirements draft and Hannes noted that the threat model was not documented. Hannes agreed to work on improving the thread model. ~~ Thanks to Keping Li and Linyi Tian for their assistance in taking notes. Keping's notes follow. ~~ Here is the brief minutes: ATOCA, IETF 81 Administrivia Chairs 5 Status Chairs 10 Requirement: Architecture: Requirement document and architecture document can be combined together. Distribution: Distribution needs to be changed to a better name. There are no clean case for "school closure". Broadcast: ISP is location constrained. Security: It is a difficult problem. Conclusion: Plan to have a vritual interim meeting Middle in Sep, 2011. Will use poll to set up this meeting. Have Hennes, David, Brian, Richard, James Polk in the design team. Work on the three or four drafts by the interim. Get something more concerete for the next F2F meeting to discuss.
