IETF OSPF WG Minutes Chairs: Acee Lindem and Abhay Roy Scribe: Yi Yang (yiya@cisco.com) * OSPF WG Document Status (Acee Lindem) - See slides - OSPF TE Metric Extensions Alia Atlas: Document has been udpated and she believes all comments resolved. - OSPF Transport Instance: Igor Bryskin: What is the advantage of transpor instance when you have multiple instance support in OSPF. Acee: 1. Only need to flood required information - no topology or prefixes. 2. Support of remote neighbors. Alvaro Retana: Do you want doc for use cases? Acee Lindem: I'd rather have implementation, but a use case document would also probably be helpful. * OSPFv3 Authentication Trailer (aka, RFC 6506Bis) - See slides. Acee Lindem: Going to confirm on list that this is WG document. AD sponsored work. * OSPFv3 Auto-config (Acee Lindem) - See slides. Fred Baker: Could set the default per interface type. Acee: I could -- but then there is default cost issue on wireless interface. Alvaro Retana: Clarify the use case on hello timer, is this for system wide bootsup, or for off and on case? Acee Lindem: Yes. David Lamparter: should differentiate b/w MANET and HOMENET use cases. Acee: I agree. I don't feel homenet implies MANET> * OSPF Extensions for Maxmumilly Redundant Trees (MRT) Fast Reroute (FRR) (Alia Atlas) - See slides. Acee: Whats advantage over remote LFA? Alia: Remote LFA requires more computation. Igor Bryskin: What mechanism to use to detect local link failure. Alia: Same as LFA. Igor: You have 2 disjoint trees? Alia: Only one will be used for a specific destination. But different destination can use different tree. Igor: Does it work in Multi area topo? Alia: Yes. independent from Area to area. David Lamparter: OSPFv3 Multi-Topology (MT) for MRT? Alia Atlas: Not there yet until OSPFv3 MT is ready. Michael Barnes: Mutli-Topology (MT) is pretty much dead for OSPF, not worth it. Huaimo Chen: Multi-Topology document is there. Acee Lindem: Michael means in practice it's dead. Huaimo Chen: Use option bit in router information TLV instead of Router-LSA bits. * OSPFv3 LSA Extendability (Acee Lindem) - See slides. Peter Psenak: It will be useful to originate 2 sets of LSAs in old formats and/or new format. Acee Lindem: Will work with Peter. David Lamparter: Why not convert between old and new LSAs at interface? Acee Lindem: Origination uses existing code better, at the cost of database size. Peter Psenak: Inital use this for new LSAs for new info other than SPF. David Lamparter: For Segment Routing and Homenet, will new LSAs be used? Acee Lindem: Yes, you will have to use them. Acee Lindem: Will update with comments so far after IETF and request WG adoption. One of the highest priority draft due to other drafts being dependent.
