-       Next Steps (alignment with ETSI NFV policy? More on policy abstractions? )

-       This draft has already moved to RG adoption

-       Discussion

o   Diego: not aware of policy work in ETSI NFV ISG -- maybe in the IFA WG

o   Mehmet Ersue (vice-chair in IFA): we postponed policy work in IFA for some time

o   Mehmet: We postponed policy a bit, but it might come up, as Diego called out

Verification of NFV Services: Problem Statement and Challenges

-       Changes since IETF92

-       Open Source related issues

-       Next steps

-       Discussion

o   Pedro Aranda: program in the EU (NetIDE), contact me for details

o   Andy Veitch: What specifically are you looking at? Runtime period validation? How are you proposing to do that quickly?

¤  Answer: Real time, active validation; scope is to focus on static state update, but am looking at more use cases for ongoing validation (maybe for next meeting)

o   Diego Lopez: will ask for adoption in mailing list

Unifying Carrier and Cloud Networks: Problem Statement and Challenges

draft-unify-nfvrg-challenges-02

-       Overview

-       Reference Scenario and Motivation

-       New in -02: A new element called Universal Node, a unified interface and unified recurrent control element

-       Discussion

o   Spiros: Practical example of an UN?

¤  Answer: Focused on network and compute infrastructure. Box as mini DC, extremely flexible, able to allocate resources as needed, also recursion, can communicate with external orchestrator

Towards recursive virtualization and programming for network and cloud resources

draft-unify-nfvrg-recursive-programming-01

Presenter: Robert Szabo

Slides: https://www.ietf.org/proceedings/93/slides/slides-93-nfvrg-23.pdf

-       Overview

-       The big switch model

-       Programming steps

-       Discussion

o   Tim Kerry: Instantiating a Yang data model – in the previous preso there was a concept of an orchestrator that works within the unify node. How does that work together?

¤  Answer: We believe the universal node exposes the unify interface, the Yang data model as an API, and via netconf the orchestrator can do the configuration across.

DevOps for software-defined telecom Infrastructures

o   Diego: Do you plan to announce the results of the prototype in the draft?

¤  Answer: Yes

o   Andy Veitch: YouÕre starting a prototype thatÕll be on OpenDayLight? OSS?

¤  Answer: We will try to see later on, I forgot the name

New Proposed Drafts:

NFV Compute Acceleration APIs and Evaluation

draft-perumal-nfvrg-nfv-compute-acceleration-00.txt

Presenter: Ramki Krishnan

Slides: https://www.ietf.org/proceedings/93/slides/slides-93-nfvrg-13.pdf

-       NFV Compute Acceleration – Software Architecture

-       Compute Acceleration for NFV (Motivation, generic Software architecture and APIs, evaluation)

-       Any workload that can be parallelized, is a good candidate for hardware acceleration

-       Implementation based on OpenCL to avoid hardware dependency

-       Sample implementation of Aho Corasick algorithm – Multistring matching

-       Test Stepup – Dell T720 with Nvidia Tesla K10 (See slides for details on these)

-       Complete Packet – Multi String Search

-       Results – CPU Multi string matches 35% packets march

-       Future Work

-       Discussion

o   Yaakov Stein: by using parallelization, you can speed up string match. What does this have to do with NFV?

¤  Answer: We think this work is relevant, and using Open APIs and heading to a more CPU-oriented solution is what we want to get to.

o   Yaakov Stein: This is pretty well known in computer science. Question is rather how this be integrated in NFV framework

¤  Answer: That was the idea with the open APIs

Gap Analysis on Network Virtualization Activities

draft-bernardos-nfvrg-gaps-network-virtualization-01

Presenter: Carlos Bernardos

Slides: https://www.ietf.org/proceedings/93/slides/slides-93-nfvrg-24.pdf

-       Objectives

-       Background: Software Defined Networking

-       IRTF/IETF initiatives and gaps

-       Discussion

o   Andy Veitch: Are the config commands a single set, or they might be across different vendors?

¤  Answer: Generic view does not consider concrete protocols like OpenFlow -- this would be done by the mapping

o   Kostas Pentikousis: Interesting because when you talked about VMM, you didnÕt talk about Mobile IP – why? The suggestion is that you could cover IPPM, youÕll need an IP measurement – we could send you some text.
Why EPC? Looks more like section that deals with other SDO

¤  Answer: mapping to concrete protocols not in scope. Thanks for the offer

VNF Orchestration for Automated Resiliency in Service Chains

draft-bernini-nfvrg-vnf-orchestration

Presenter: Giacomo

Slides: https://www.ietf.org/proceedings/93/slides/slides-93-nfvrg-12.pdf

-       VNF orchestration Framework (built around 2 components, orchestrator, SDN controller), built upon ETSI NFV Architecture, VNFPOOL

-       Current NFV Architecture

-       VNFPOOL

-       Proposed integration of VNFPOOL into the NFV architecture

-       Real life implementation

-       Work partially funded by project Trilogy2

-       Discussion

o   Chris Price: how does the ETSI model relate to VNFPOOL?

¤  Answer: ItÕs a realization of the instances within a VNF

Open-Source and Project Updates

OPNFV Arno

Presenter: Heather Kirksey

Slides: https://www.ietf.org/proceedings/93/slides/slides-93-nfvrg-9.pdf

-       Discussion

o   Doug Montgomery: On the site, are there milestones for the future capabilities?

¤  Answer: We are working on that, hired a release manager, and have started compiling milestones for the second release, this is still being worked on.

o   Andy Veitch: What are the liaising that you are doing with SDOs?

¤  Answer: as an open source group, we donÕt have the same liaison mechanisms that the SDOs do, but we focus on interacting with the SDOs; the interactions are a bit more informal.

OpenStack Tacker

Presenter: Sridhar Ramaswamy

Slides: https://www.ietf.org/proceedings/93/slides/slides-93-nfvrg-25.pdf

-       Discussion

o   Mehmet Ersue: What do you mean by self-healing of VNF Manager?

¤  Answer: of the VNF.

o   Pedro Aranda: Are you aware of OpenMANO?

¤  Answer: Yes, something we want to discuss with OpenMANO, waiting for an opportunity to discuss this with them

o   Mehmet Ersue: You are looking at VNFs that are pretty much generic, donÕt know a lot about their specific VNF manager?

¤  Answer: We are the VNF manager. We are looking at a variety of VNFs, vRouters, we are planning to instantiate a vEPC through Tacker.

¤  Mehmet: There are some requirements for having a specific VNF manager coming from one vendor, are you looking at the requirements which are developed right now in NFV, in different ifabric items? TheyÕre available in the Open area of ETSI

¤  Answer: Thanks for the pointer, thatÕs something that weÕre trying to absorb

o   Ramki: are you considering tointerface to OpenStack Congress, too?

¤  Answer: Staying away from policy for now

¤  Ramki:  For placement, it could be relevant

¤  Answet: Yes, totally

o   Heather Kirksey: Is any part of this going to be in OpenStack Liberty, or when will some of this be available in OpenStack pieces?

¤  Answer: This is something you can install today, instructions in the wiki, weÕre adding more features into Liberty
