NWCRG Meeting Notes 2015-07-21 Brian Adamson (BA) opened the meeting, introduced Agenda and Note Well. Angeles Vazquez-Castro (AVC) presentation on "System and layer independent network coding architecture design" Victor Firoiu (VF) Question: On the COST Action: do some participants work in multiple groups? AVC Answer: yes. BA Q: Working Groups have time frames? AVC A: yes. Jabber Q: on previous slide do not understand how ARQ works in LTE AVC A: replace ARQ w Network Coding BA Q: Do you know if it makes sense to reach out to other members of the COST Action and present here? AVC A: Yes. VF Q: You mentioned both theoretical and practical aspects. Is this a proposal for 5G, LTE? If yes, is it to be standardized in 5GPP? AVC A: It is only research, but have contact with 5G. BA Q: Do you have a web page on the COST project? AVC A: Yes, and I will provide a link. Next presentation: Vincent Roca (VR) on FECFRAMEv2. BA Q: FECframe design does not preclude feedback mechanism based on FEC framme symbol iDs? VR A: Agreed, it can be done within the FEC frame frameowrk. VF Q: So this FECFrame extension would be a Network Coding protocol, but no feedback for reliability? VR A: This is a proposal for special use of FECFRAME for realtime applications. Jabber Q: Isn't in-network recoding the main point of Network Coding group? VR A: It is. Next presentation: Jonathan Detchart (JD) on Tetrys update. Morten Pederesen (MP) Q: Does not get any new symbol? Need to communicate how to construct matrix? JD A: See next presentation. MP Q: From any subset? JD A: No, only in favorable situations. BA Q: Do not need to send encoding symbols because are generated deterministically? JD A: Yes. VF Q: Lack of randmoness may have some drawback? JD A: Yes. Frank Fitzek (FF): If want to avoid patent on Random Linear Coding, need to remove feedback as it is in patent as well. Next: Morten Pederesen presents a list of papers on sliding window for survey. Asking feedback and sugestions for other papers. Emmanuel Lochin (EL): For a survey need to add all papers. BA: Goal is to get techniques and not be exhaustive. BA: Also, wiki page for people to add papers. next: Brian Adamson led discussion on Tutorial outline. Lars Eggert (LE): For a plenary/IAB presentation, did 4 dry runs with speakers, and still went 10min longer. Presnetation should be high-level. Andrew Sullivan: in Yokohama will be only one plenary, so it has even more time constraints. BA Q: How were the dry runs done? LE A: 2 on Webex, one at IETF the day before. Steve Otsco: If we want to do a demo of technology, we can present at Bits and Bytes and at lunch-time session. Andrew: at IAB can also do several shorter presentations. BA: More applicabilty presentations. FF: Need to find a message on Network Coding for members of other groups. LE: Would be good to find people that use commercially. Demo some actual benefit, in the tutorial. SO: Also include feature that improves security. Next, Victor Firoiu presentation on Network Coding Architecure. Lars: on Congestion Control: MP-TCP has a lot in common with this CC, and could be reused. VF: Yes, this is our intention, to define Building Blocks, some of which can use existing algorithms. Brian Adamson closed the meeting.
