Joint TICTOC and NTP WG Meetings IETF 96 - Berlin These meetings occurred in 4 segments over the course of the week… 1) Working meeting of NTP security and BCP teams (Mon, 18 July, 14:00 - 17:30 CEST) 2) Joint NTP/TICTOC WG business meeting (Mon, 18 July, 19:00 - 20:00 CEST) 3) Working meeting of the NTS design team (Tue, 18 July, 10:00 - 12:00 CEST) 3) Report out of additional side meetings during the week (Fri, 22 July, 12:20 - 13:20 CEST) Monday, 18 July 2016, 14:00 - 17:30 CEST, Location: Tegel ========================================================= The side meeting focused on addressing questions around the requirements and security posture of the NTS documents and the proposed additional mechanism based on DTLS. There needs to be some additional work to collect and validate some requirements and assumptions related to large scale NTP server operations like NIST. An update to the DTLS proposal along with discussion on how it fits into the existing solution is required. * NTP WGLC Design Team discussions: draft-ietf-ntp-network-time-security-14 draft-ietf-ntp-cms-for-nts-message-06 draft-ietf-ntp-using-nts-for-ntp-05 draft-dfranke-ntp-keyid0-00 draft-aanchal4-ntp-mac-00 * NTP BCP (Reilly) draft-reilly-ntp-bcp-02 Monday, 18 July, 19:00 - 20:00 CEST, Tiergarten =============================================== NTP WG Agenda: * NTP WG status (Chairs) * NTP WGLC Design Team discussions: draft-ietf-ntp-network-time-security-14 draft-ietf-ntp-cms-for-nts-message-06 draft-ietf-ntp-using-nts-for-ntp-05 draft-dfranke-ntp-keyid0-00 draft-aanchal4-ntp-mac-00 The NTS WGLC design team continues to make progress, but there are still a number of outstanding questions to be pursued. Daniel Franke plans to provide an updated proposal for DTLS in the next 3-4 weeks. There is consensus to do a face to face interim to progress this work in the Boston area in October, perhaps in conjunction with the IEEE 1588 meeting. * NTP BCP (Reilly) draft-reilly-ntp-bcp-02 The NTP BCP is ready to be adopted as a working group document. Send to WGLC in advance of the Seoul IETF. * Extension Field Drafts draft-stenn-ntp-i-do draft-stenn-ntp-last-extension draft-mayer-ntp-mac-extension-field There were no updates to the extension field drafts. These need further discussion amongst the key contributors. * REFID Drafts draft-stenn-ntp-ipv6-refid-hash draft-stenn-ntp-suggest-refid draft-stenn-ntp-leap-smear-refid draft-stenn-ntp-not-you-refid The REFID drafts should also be condensed. There is a difference however in the drafts that are proposing new mechanisms and drafts that clarify or fix existing issues related to the REFID. * NTP Mode 6 draft-haberman-ntpwg-mode-6-cmds There was extensive discussion on whether we should pursue this document or not. The commands exist in the implementation and should be properly documented. However there is concern that they should actually be made historic because we don’t want to encourage their continued use. The thought is to publish them as historic right away. Tuesday, 19 July 2016, 10:00 - 12:00 CEST, Location: Tegel ========================================================== The NTS WGLC design team continued discussions related to clarification of assumptions and requirements and furthering understanding of the details of the various options under discussion. At this point, a written proposal is really needed in order to progress the work. It is hoped to have a document within a month. Friday, 22 July, 12:20 - 13:20 CEST, Charlottenburg II/III ========================================================== TICTOC Agenda: * Next steps on collaboration with IEEE 1588 on MIB and YANG modules (resolution from joint IEEE/IETF meeting) There was no resolution from the joint IEEE/IETF meeting regarding the publication of the MIB. There will be a separate call with IEEE and IETF leadership and lawyers to resolve this issue. Pat Thayer will be helping to coordinate that call. The authors have an additional set of comments to address in the meantime. * Yang Data Model for IEEE 1588v2 draft-jlx-tictoc-1588v2-yang-02 It was clarified that the IEEE release being requested was within the scope of the individual authors responsibility. They are free to sign it if they wish. The Yang module can be accepted as a working group item. * Update on Problem Statements for Scalable Synchronization Networks draft-hjxl-ssn-ps-00 At this time, there are no spare resources to pursue this work. * reports from any ad-hoc NTP discussions during the week The second break out session for the NTS WGLC design team was focused on further discussion of the requirements and questions for clarification. There is no additional progress to report. * Continue monthly virtual meetings There was consensus to continue the monthly virtual meetings going forward. * Charter work There is consensus to combine the two working groups into one and recharter. It is planned to do this before the IETF in Seoul.
