The closest international airport to The Fairmont Royal York is Lester B. Pearson International Airport (YYZ). For guests traveling from Canada and the United States, the closest domestic airport is Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ).
* There is an Airport Express Bus Service. If you are coming from the airport you can visit the booths at both Terminals 1 and 3 arrival levels, or you may purchase tickets at a slight discount from the Web site (gratuities to driver not included in fare). Please see the Web site for bus schedule.
* Taxis are available at the following pickup locations outside the terminals: Terminal One Domestic, Area A1; Terminal One International, D1; Terminal Three Domestic, Post 11; Terminal Three International, Post 31. More information regarding taxis and limousines.
* For people without a lot of luggage, it is cheap and easy to get from the airport to the hotel by TTC bus and subway. At rush hour it's probably as fast as a taxi since the subway doesn't get stuck in traffic. Fares are paid by tokens, usually available at the Travelex booths on the terminal ground level for $2.75, or paper ticket from TTC machines near the door to the bus stop for $3 (coins and plastic accepted.) Follow the signs for the TTC bus. There are several buses, the one you want is the #192 Rocket which runs every 10 minutes. Put the token or ticket (keep the receipt half) in the slot and get a transfer from the driver. The #192 goes quickly to the Kipling subway station via the freeway. Take any train 15 stops to St George. Change to the other subway line and take an inbound train five stops to Union station. The Royal York is across the street from Union Station.
Take the free ferry to the mainland. Follow the signs for the shuttle bus.
There is a free shuttle service to and from the airport on the south side of Front Street, just past the southwest corner of York and Front Streets (near the Starbucks). It is across the street from the Fairmont Royal York. It runs every fifteen minutes from early morning to about midnight. See the Web site for more detailed information.
Taxis are available just outside the ferry building on the mainland.
Arrival Coordination - for ease of taxi sharing. Please note: it has been reported that during peak hours the airport shuttle from Pearson International (YYZ) to downtown Toronto may get backed up. A shared taxi may be more cost/time effective.

From the Fairmont Royal York Hotel lobby, if you go down one more level, you will find yourself in Toronto’s PATH complex, containing a variety of restaurants and shops. Below the east end of the Fairmont Royal York Hotel, before the escalator that connects into the adjacent Royal Bank Plaza, there is a Bank of Montreal ATM. (I used my United States Wells Fargo ATM card to withdraw $300 CAD, and it cost me $282 USD, which is basically today’s inter-bank (zero commission) exchange rate, plus a $2 fee for using the ATM — Stuart Cheshire)
Other currency needs:
Scotiabank is the Bank of America International Partner for Canada. According to the Web site, you may use your BoA ATM card at any Scotiabank ATM location and you will avoid the “Non-Bank of America ATM $5 usage fee”. But, BoA started last year charging a “international transaction fee of 3% of the converted U.S. dollar amount” for withdrawals (or not, depending on your “account relationship”).
HSBC's local partner is HSBC Canada, at 70 York St.
Please check with your financial institution to see if they have reciprocal services.
BoA, Barclays, Scotiabank, Deutsche Bank are members of a group of financial institutions called the Global ATM Alliance. See https://www.bankofamerica.com/deposits/manage/faq-atm-fees.go for BoA's list of the members (you have to scroll down). It is not clear that every member in this group extends privileges to every other member. Doublecheck with your own bank.
