Introduction 66 This memo updates the selection of trustees for the IETF Trust. 67 Previously, Administrative Oversight Committee (IAOC) members also 68 acted as trustees. This memo specifies that the trustees shall be 69 selected separately. 71 This memo updates RFCs 4071 and 4371 with regards to the selection of 72 trustees. All other aspects of the IETF Trust remain as they are 73 today. 75 For a discussion of why this change is needed and a rationale for 76 these specific changes, see [I-D.arkko-iasa2-trust-rationale]. 78 2. Selection of Trustees 80 This document, if approved, revises the current procedures defined in 81 [RFC4071] and [RFC4371] to eliminate the requirement that trustees be 82 drawn from the members of the IAOC. Trustees shall instead be three 83 members appointed by the IETF Nominations Committee and confirmed by 84 the IESG, one member appointed by the IESG, and one member appointed 85 by the ISOC Board of Trustees. 87 The IETF Trust will provide a list of desired qualifications for the 88 trustee positions. 90 A change to the Trust Agreement is required to effectuate this 91 change, and this document request that the current Trustees make this 92 change at their earliest convenience. 94 The terms of the appointed trustees from Nominations Committee shall 95 be three years. The initial selection shall be one, two, and three 96 year terms. The other appointments by the IESG and the ISOC Board of 97 Trustees shall be two year terms, with the initial terms being one 98 and two years, respectively. 100 The normal IETF rules regarding recalls and other Nomcom-related 101 processes continue to apply [RFC7437]. 103 3. Acknowledgements 105 The authors would like to thank members of the earlier IASA 2.0 106 design team, as well as Alissa Cooper, Andrew Sullivan, Brian 107 Carpenter, Lucy Lynch, and John Levine for interesting discussions in 108 this problem space. 110 4.
