• Generic procedures and procedures specific to ATM have been separated

• Report connection state message generalised

• Port configuration message generalised, now includes PortType specific data space

• Label range message has not been generalised yet

  • Need input on flexibility required for non ATM ports

• There are no restrictions on switching from one PortType to another

  • There is no control in GSMP of the packet transcoding issues
