The functionality provided by IPv6's Type 0 Routing Header can be exploited
in order to achieve traffic amplification over a remote path for the
purposes of generating denial-of-service traffic. This document updates the
IPv6 specification to deprecate the use of IPv6 Type 0 Routing Headers, in
light of this security concern.
The IPv6 Neighbor Discovery's Router Advertisement message contains an
8-bit field reserved for single-bit flags. Several protocols have reserved
flags in this field and others are preparing to reserve a sufficient number
of flags to exhaust the field. This document defines an option to the
Router Advertisement message that expands the available number of flag bits
available.
